The 42nd International Bazaar

Posted by BCS on November 18, 2008

P

A portion of the Italian Booth... notice the big slice of cheese on the table... that is parmigiano (or parmesan as it is more familiarly known to many of us)... it tasted heavenly... and the after taste was just... well... orgasmic. 😛

At the 42nd International Bazaar (held last Sunday, November 16, 2000, at the PICC Forums 1, 2, and 3, at the CCP Complex).

Some of the countries/embassies that took part in the bazaar were Thailand, Korea, Italy, France, Holland, Switzerland, New Zealand, Iran, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Singapore, Turkey, India, and Spain… there were wines, cheeses, chocolate/sweets, leather products, perfume, furniture, clothing items, jewelry, crafts, and many MANY other things. There were also several local exhibitors selling local products.

Breakfast and Lunch Menus of Hotel de Oriente

Posted by BCS on October 1, 2008

As I mentioned in my first “Then and Now” post, I found images of Hotel de Oriente’s menus on the New York Public Library Digital Collections website.

Yesterday morning I sent an email to the NYPL Photographic Services and Permissions to ask if I may be allowed to post here the images of the menus. And to my great joy, I received a reply (less than 12 hours later) from the Manager of the NYPL Photographic Services and Permissions, Mr. Thomas Lisanti, granting me permission to do so. (Thank you SO MUCH Mr. Lisanti!)

Thus, I now present to you the ACTUAL menus of Hotel de Oriente (also known as Oriente Hotel)!

Hanging the Fish Out to Dry

Posted by BCS on September 24, 2008

Fish hung out to dry

Fish hung out to dry

Here’s how you make “tuyo” (or “bulad” in Bisaya). Fish ’em out of the sea, gut ’em, salt ’em, and hang ’em out to dry.

This photo was taken some time in 2002 on a beach somewhere in Zambales (during our office outing).
